FALLEN ROYAL by Rachel Van Dyken ~ Review

Fallen Royal isn’t something you simply read, you live inside the pages, transported into the Mafia Royals’ world, the blood oath, you feel it to the utmost degree, they bleed, you bleed, and when they hurt, it becomes ingrained in your soul.

I am in some sort of in-between, part of me remains engulfed inside the pages, not ready to part with the world that has become my greatest love, my most precious fictional world, not because it’s all rainbows and sunshine, but because it’s not.

Izzy is the daughter of Chase Abandonato, she’s unlike the other family, she has an innocence that not many children in a mafia family, she a math nerd, and while she’s seen the darkness of the world she lives in she never allowed it to take away who she was at her core. At her core, she was a math nerd whose soul was wholly interwoven with Makism’s.

Maks is the science nerd, always ready to make others laugh, charming and witty, a lethal combination to ovaries everywhere. He had been in love with Izzy since he was 11, but a series of unfortunate events left him with little choice, and the only way he could save her, was to break her.

I spent my day enwrapped inside a world with Maks and Izzy. I had no choice, my eyes couldn’t look away from the words on the page, my heart was beating in anticipation of the happily ever after, but between that my core ached, and my soul shattered.

Maksim and Izzy held my heart in their hand from the first page to the very last, spurred on by impassioned emotions, I didn’t just laugh (I snort laughed), I didn’t just smile (I giggled uncontrollably), my heart (shattered), my feels (inflamed), my soul (burgeoning).

Suspense, threats from enemies and towards family (because mafia), it was a rollercoaster, emotionally, and mentally, my head was lost to reality as this jaw-dropping story played out, not only in front of my eyes, but to the depths of me, I felt it, I lived it, and I loved it.

Van Dyken has created this world that you become so entangled in that you feel like a part of the Family, when you read the words “Blood in. No out.” you get chills, they aren’t said “to you” but you feel the intensity behind them to your core.

Fallen Royal is without a doubt my top read of the year, a Two-Twirl read. An enchanting blend of majestic chemistry, more formidable than soulmates, waves of emotions I’ve never experienced from a fictional world, sobbing one page then giggling the next, searing your soul with every ounce of hurt, mind boggling twists, eye-popping turns, and blisteringly hot steam, your heart, mind, and a piece of your soul will remain in the pages of this story. Blood in. No out. It was everything my heart needed, and my soul craved.
